Cyprus faces near-freezing temperatures with frost expected in the mountains
Cyprus faces near-freezing temperatures today with frost expected across mountainous regions and some lowland areas, the national weather service reports.
Daytime temperatures will reach 10°C inland and 12°C in coastal areas, while mountain regions will hover around 0°C. North to northeasterly winds will blow at force 3 to 4, occasionally reaching force 5, with slightly rough seas.
Tonight, temperatures will drop to 0°C inland and 2°C along the coast, while higher mountain areas will plunge to -8°C. Clear skies will prevail with northwestern to northeastern winds at force 3, and calm to slight seas.
Frost is expected to form in mountainous, semi-mountainous, and some lowland areas overnight.
Tuesday will remain partly to mostly cloudy across the island.
From Wednesday through Thursday scattered rain and mountain snow are expected, with temperatures expected to rise gradually to seasonal averages.
Wednesday will bring isolated showers, primarily in western regions, with snowfall expected in mountainous areas. Similar conditions will persist into Thursday.
The Chionistra measuring station currently reports a snow depth of 5 centimetres.
