Bank manager in north Cyprus arrested for manipulating customers accounts and spending loot on betting and Gambling
A man who works as a branch manager at a bank operating in Girne, reportedly manipulated the accounts of eight customers and spent the stolen money on betting and gambling.The suspect, İlke Çağış, a branch manager at a bank operating in Girne, was arrested and brought before the court at the weekend charged with “Theft.”
Police officer who testified in court stated that the suspect had been initially detained on February 4 and was granted a three-day extension for investigation. During this period, it was discovered that Çağış manipulated the accounts of eight customers, stealing £1.3 million and €30,000, all of which was spent on betting and gambling.
The officer stated that inquiries had been sent to the Casinos Association, the Money, Exchange, and Development Fund Department, the Land Registry, and the Motor Vehicles Department, but no responses had been received yet.
Noting that the investigation is still ongoing and the number of complainants may increase, the police requested an additional seven days of detention for the suspect.
