Woman arrested with 9-month old baby for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit to remain in detention: Third suspect deported
A Nigerian woman and a man who were arrested and held in police custody along with their 9-month old baby for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit were each given 8 days of detention, while the third individual was deported even before he was supposed to appear in court.
The individuals, AA, GTA and AAA along with a nine-moth old baby were arrested on January 16, 2025, in Lefkosa after it was determined that they were living in north Cyprus without a resident permit.
They were brought to court on Saturday and then again on Tuesday.
Police officer who testified in court against them stated that they were arrested on January 16, 2025, after being found residing without permission. Immigration investigations revealed that the suspects had been staying in the country without authorization for 48 days, since November 29, 2024.
They were ordered by the judge to remain in detention for 3 days for the purpose of investigation while the 9-month old baby belonging to GTA was placed under the supervision of the Department of Social Services.
GTA and AAA who were brought back to court again on Tuesday January 21 were remanded in police custody for another 8 days.
The police indicated that the investigation is ongoing, that it needs to be determined whether they were involved in any crimes during their stay in the country, and that their deportation procedures are still continuing.
Meanwhile the third suspect AA is said to have been deported without being brought to court after the completion of deportation procedures.
