Three individuals and a 9-month old baby arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit
Three individuals, one of them with a 9 months old baby were arrested by Turkish Cypriot police for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit. While three of the suspects were remanded in custody the baby was held under the supervision of Social Services.
The individuals, AA, GTA and AAA, who are all Nigerians were arrested on Thursday January 16 on the grounds that they were in north Cyprus without authorization.
They were brought to court on Saturday.
Police officer who testified in court against the individuals, stated that they were caught red-handed on January 16, 2025, after being found residing without permission. Immigration investigations revealed that the suspects had been staying in the country without authorization from the competent authorities for 48 days, since November 29, 2024.
The police noted that the investigation has just begun and that they will investigate whether the suspects were involved in any crimes during this period. The police requested that the suspects be detained at the station for three days to facilitate the investigation.
The suspects' lawyer informed the court that GTA has a 9-month-old baby, who has been placed under the supervision of the Department of Social Services.
The judge after evaluating the testimony presented, ordered the suspects to remain in police custody for three days to ensure the investigation proceeds effectively.
