Pakistani national living illegally in north Cyprus arrested in Lefkoşa

A foreign national who was found living illegally in north Cyprus was arrested and held in police custody for 3 days.

The individual, I.S, a Pakistani national was arrested on Saturday January 25 and brought before the court on Sunday morning. 

Police in a court testimony against I.S stated that on January 25, 2025, at 11:00 PM in Lefkoşa, the Crime Prevention Unit officers noticed I.S, a resident of Lefkoşa, acting suspiciously during their patrol. Upon conducting an immigration check, it was discovered that he had been residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without a permit for a total of 190 days since July 10, 2024.

The officer confirmed that I.Sr was arrested and an investigation was initiated. He also noted plans to conduct further inquiries with the Civil Immigration Department and requested that the suspect be detained for three days for the investigation to proceed.
