North Cyprus raises minimum wage to 37,818 TL net

The TRNC Wage Determination Commission has announced a new minimum wage, the first of the year 2025 at a gross monthly amount of 43,469 TL and a net amount of 37,818 TL, an increase of 7.5 percent.

Following the meeting of the commission on Friday, the commission's president, Tahir Serhat, announced that the minimum wage was determined with a 7.5% increase, setting the gross amount at 43,469 TL and the net amount at 37,818 TL.

Serhat stated that the minimum wage was approved by a majority vote, with worker representatives voting "no."

Providing details about the wage figures, Serhat explained that the hourly rate was set at 250.78 TL, the daily rate at 2,006.26 TL, and the weekly rate at 10,031.30 TL.

The new minimum wage will come into effect on January 1, 2025.

According to report by the Statistical Institute, the new minimum wage is below the Cost of Living rate of 11.12 percent.

The minimum wage was last determined as 40,436 TL gross and 35,180 TL net on September 1, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Federation of Free Trade Unions (Hür-İş), Ahmet Serdaroğlu reacted after the determination of the new minimum wage by saying, “Shame on you, shame on this government.”

Stating that the resulting figure was a great shame for the government, Serdaroğlu said that they could not accept a 7.5 percent increase in a place where even the cost of living, which was 11.12 percent, was open to discussion.
