Man who's driving license for drunk driving involved in another drunk driving
A driver who
was arrested and fined for drunk driving and then detained because he
could not pay the fine and his license suspended was arrested again for
drunk driving.
The suspect CD, a citizen of Turkey who was initially finned 40,136 TL for driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested again on Tuesday Jan. 21 in Lefkosa on charges of “Careless driving, driving without a driving license, driving without the permission of the Owner and without insurance coverage.”
Police said at around 7:30 pm on Jan. 21, on Mehmet Akif Street in Lefkoşa, the suspect, who was driving under the influence of alcohol while on a double lane road, hit the rear of a saloon car going in the same direction that had stopped by the traffic light near the prime ministry.
While no one was injured in the accident, an estimated damage of 35,000 TL and 20,000 TL occurred to the vehicles involved in the accident.
Police said the suspect was arrested and placed in the cells of the Central Police Station.
Police stated that in the investigation, it was determined that the suspect was driving under the influence of 156% alcohol in Lefkosia on January 16, 2025.
The police emphasized that the suspect was reported with a fixed fine and 100 penalty points, and that since the suspect did not pay the fine within the legal period of 3 days, he was brought before the Lefkosia District court.
Police said that they determined that the suspect had committed the accident the same evening, despite his driving license being revoked by the court, while driving under the influence of 230% alcohol, which is also above the limit.
Police said the vehicle he used belonged to his work place and his employer was not aware he took it.
He was released on bail and banned from traveling abroad until trial.
