Man set to be deported from north Cyprus for illegal residency after visiting immigration office to obtain a document
A man who visited the immigration office in Lefkosa, north Cyprus to obtained a document was found to have been living illegally in the country and was arrested.
The individual, BG, an Iranian national in north Cyprus was arrested on January 7, 2025 when he visited the Lefkosa Immigration Office to obtain an entry-exit document.
He was brought to court on Thursday.
Police officer who spoke in court said the suspect was identified on January 7, 2025, when he came to the Lefkosia Immigration Office to obtain an entry-exit document.
During the immigration check, the police determined that the suspect had been residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without permission for 999 days, since January 14, 2022. The officer noted that a letter had been written for the suspect's deportation order, and the decision was awaited.
The police stated that they needed two days to complete the investigation and for the deportation order to be issued.
Speaking in court, the suspect said he voluntarily went to the police and expressed his desire to return to his country.
After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered that the suspect remain in police custody for two days.
