Man arrested for breaking into an apartment in Gönyeli found to be living in north Cyprus illegally

An individual who was caught while trying to enter a student's house through a window in Gönyeli was brought to court and detained for two day pending trial.

The suspect, named only as MSA, a 30-year-old Turkish national was arrested and brought to court on Wednesday January 15 on charges of "Entering a residence with Intent to Commit a Crime, Trespassing, and Being in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Without Permission,".

Police officer who testified in court said at around 11:00 PM on January 14, 2025, the suspect, a resident of Gönyeli, entered the home of a 20-year-old student in Gönyeli by opening an unlocked sliding aluminum window facing the southern side of the residence with the intent to commit a crime.

The police stated that the suspect was arrested on the spot by the Gönyeli Police Station officers who arrived at the scene.

The homeowner testified that they saw the suspect opening his bag.

During a immigration check, the police discovered that the suspect had been staying in the TRNC without permission for a total of 56 days since November 21, 2024. 

The police noted that the investigation had just begun and that there were statements to be taken and camera footage to be reviewed, requesting a 2-day period. 

Evaluating the testimony presented, the judge ordered that the suspect be held in detention for two days.
