Five people sent to prison for living illegally in the north Cyprus
Five people who were found to be living illegally in the north Cyprus were arrested during police inspections carried out in Lefkosa on Tuesday.
The individuals were brought to court Wednesday.
Police in court testimony said of the suspects named P.A, a Nigerian was detected by teams patrolling Girne Street in Lefkoşa at 5:30 pm on January 28, 2025. During the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had resided in the TRNC without permission for a total of 486 days, starting from September 30, 2023.
The police noted that another suspect J.O, a Nigerian was spotted walking suspiciously on İhsan Güven Street, west of the Lefkosia Police Department, at 10:55 am on the same date. He explained that during the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had been residing in the TRNC without permission for a total of 1,112 days, starting from January 12, 2022.
The police officer also announced that the suspects HS, AR and MSB who are all Pakistanis were detected during an inspection and immigration check conducted by a police team on Girne Street in Lefkoşa at 6:00 pm. During the immigration check, it was determined that HS had been residing in the TRNC without permission for a total of 362 days as of January 31, 2024, and AR and MSB had been residing in the TRNC for 80 days as of November 9, 2024.
The police requested a 3-day period for them, stating that an investigation had been launched into the 5 suspects.
