Death toll in north Cyprus as a result of traffic accidents at an alarming rate as 27-year-old man die in accident
A 27 years old man died in a traffic accident in Lefkosa, north Cyprus early on Thursday morning bringing the total number of death linked to traffic accidents in 2025 to 4, a number that raises concerns about the high rate of fatal traffic accidents in the country.
The accident occurred at around 3:40 am on Thursday January 16 on the Lefkosa - Famagusta Main Road.
According to information provided by the Police Press Office, a vehicle driven at high speed and carelessly by one Abdullah Pirliyev (27), lost control near MFC Motors in the Demirhan area. The car veered off the road to the left and overturned, eventually coming to a stop on its wheels.
As a result of the accident, Furkat Bazarow, 27, a Turkmenistan national and a resident of Cihangir who was in the vehicle, lost his life at the scene.
The accident marks the fourth traffic fatality in the first 16 days of January.
Abdullah Pirliyev, sustained minor injuries. An alcohol test revealed that Pirliyev was under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of 136 mg/dL.
Abdullah Pirliyew, was arrested and brought to court.
