Pupil turns Santa in south Cyprus: Distributes €15,000 cash to classmates in school

Greek Cypriot police are investigating an incident at a secondary school in Nicosia, (south) Cyprus where a student distributed €15,000 in cash to classmates last week.

According to report, the student shared the money among fellow pupils, with one receiving €3,500 to buy a motorcycle. A female student received €500, while others were given smaller amounts. Some students have already spent the money on clothes.

The incident came to light after a parent filed a complaint at Strovolos Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the school area. School administrators have contacted parents of students who received money, requesting its return.

A parent said the cash appeared to be fresh bank notes in €100 denominations. The source alleged that a teacher also accepted €50 from the student.

Both police and the Ministry of Education are conducting investigations into the incident.
