1994 – The first fare-paying passengers travelled by train through the Channel Tunnel linking England and France.

2000 – World’s first 16-megapixel photograph – the highest resolution digital image possible – appears at Las Vegas computer trade show.

2003 – World’s first drivable fuel cell vehicle makes first appearance in China.

2008 – World leaders arrive in Washington for G20 summit to resolve financial crisis.

2009 – Cameron Van Der Burg of South Africa sets new world record in men’s 50m breaststroke competition.

2012 – Israel launches multiple strikes against Gaza.

2013 – Japan’s Kenichi Ito sets world record for fastest time running on all fours, running in the style of the African Patas monkey.

2016 – New Zealand earthquake causes damage to major transport links.
