This Day in History: Singapore government bans chewing gum

1955 – Panamanian President Jose Antonio Remon was machinegunned and killed while attending the Franco Race track in Panama City.

1971 – A crowd barrier collapsed at Ibrox Park soccer ground in Glasgow, Scotland, at the end of the Rangers v Celtic match, and 66 people were killed.

1992 – Singapore government bans chewing gum.

2001 – The first Taiwanese boats in more than 50 years to make legal, direct trips to the Chinese mainland docked in the southeastern province of Fujian.

2014 – De’Antony Thomas scores record-breaking 91-yard touchdown at 98th Rose Bowl.

2016 – Mexican mayor killed one day after taking office.
