Police arrest Azerbaijani hitman after he enter south Cyprus to carry out an execution

A 38-year-old Azerbaijani with a Russian passport was on Monday arrested by Greek Cypriot police while attempting to enter south Cyprus via the Lokmacı pedestrian crossing in Lefkosa with a gun to carry out an execution.

According to Greek Cypriot daily ‘Politis’, the 38-year-old man, who was carrying a gun and a silencer had arrived in the south to carry out an execution.

The report said that he had been followed, following a tip-off by the Greek Cypriot police. Shortly after crossing over to the south, he hired a car.

He was stopped by the police who searched the vehicle and discovered that he was carrying a gun with a silencer. Police also seized “other evidence” found in the car.

Report coming out of south Cyprus said Israelis with business activity in Cyprus could be the alleged target of paid killers – one of whom is suspected to be the Azeri national.

Police are now trying to figure out whether he has associates.  He is suspected of planning a criminal act, in particular carrying out a death contract.

The Azeri arrived at Larnaca Airport a few days ago and crossed to the north of the island but came back to the south on Monday.
