Student tells court he stole from a car because he was hungry
A student who was arrested for stealing a wallet containing money from a vehicle in Lefkosa has pleaded guilty to the crime saying he was hungry.
The suspect reportedly committed the crime between the hour of 11:00am - 2:30pm on Sunday, December, 13.
According to police report, the suspect took a black leather wallet containing 1,200 TL, driver's license and Turkish ID from the front seat of a Volkswogen Polo car belonging to one Mehmet Hamurcu parked on a street in Lefkosa.
The suspect was identified and arrested on Wednesday December, 16 following the review of security cameras in the area.
Police in court said the suspect took 470 TL of the 1,200 TL in the wallet while the rest of the money, the wallet, ID card and driving license was found in his house as a result of the search carried out.
Speaking in court, the suspect who did not have a lawyer said;
I did it because I was hungry. I was in a difficult situation.
Considering that the investigation had just begun, the court decided to keep the suspect in detention for 1 day.
