A 3 meter long sharking weighing about 200 pounds was caught by fisher men in sea off Yeni Erenköy on Saturday.
The shark is described as a rare adult female (Isurus oxyrinchus). It was caught by a fishing net and died.
It is understood that the species is a critically endangered species across the Mediterranean and prohibited by EU law.
Experts stated that a draft legal regulation to protect sharks in the region has been developed in the TRNC but has not been signed yet.
