11 murder suspects to remain in detention for another 8 days

The 11 people who were arrested and detained in connection with the murder of Nigerian student, Obasanjo Adeola Owoyale have been ordered to remain in detention for another 8 days pending investigation. 

Obasanjo, 33 was found dead and wrapped in a blanket in the trunk of a car parked at an open space near a school in Lefkosa on Monday, July, 8, 8 days after he was declared missing on Monday, July, 1.

Autopsy result revealed that he had a deep cut on the head and died as a result of head injury and damaged brain tissue.

11 people were subsequently arrested in connection with the murder in an early morning raid on Thursday, July, 11 in an apartment located 200 meters away from where the car was found.

They were first brought before a Lefkosa court on Friday, July 12 where they were given a 3 day detention order.

They were arraigned again in court on Monday, July, 15 where police prosecutor requested that they be given another 8 day detention order to allow them carry out more investigation into the matter.

The court judge granted the prosecutors request and ordered that they remain in detention for another 8 days for the purpose of investigation.

They will be brought to court again on Monday, July, 22.

The police are yet to determine the real culprit behind the murder.

Police told the court that more people were arrested and statements taken from 38 people so far. 

Samples from a carpet with blood stain, knife and blood stain found on the wall of the apartment were sent to the Ankara Criminal Police Laboratory for analysis.
